Meet our Business Development Manager – Gustaf Pettersson
How long have you been working at Betalkontroll?
I started at Betalkontroll in mid-November 2019.
How has the initial period been?
Super fun and intense! We are seeing high demand for our software, which is great. We are a close-knit team with a high level of commitment and drive. It feels good to work with software that really makes a difference for our customers in terms of increased and automated internal control. It's really fun to go to work!
What does a typical working day look like for you?
A typical day usually consists of meetings with companies and/or municipalities that are interested in learning more about Betalkontroll. But the days are usually quite varied. One day it might be training at a customer's premises, while the next day we might have internal meetings about business development.
Can you tell us a little more about your background?
I was born and raised in Stockholm and have a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on accounting from Stockholm University and a master's degree in business administration with a focus on accounting from Umeå University. After my studies, I started working at Deloitte in auditing and then at Alvarez and Marsal in transaction advisory services.
Why did you apply to Betalkontroll?
During my time at Deloitte, I understood the value of effective and reliable internal control. Betalkontroll has developed software that effectively helps companies avoid incorrect payments and fraud, something that is becoming increasingly important. I believe in the idea and I think it is very timely. It's fun to be involved in helping companies increase and automate their internal control in the process from purchase to payment.
What do you see as the biggest challenges for companies and organizations in terms of internal control
within the purchasing-to-payment process?
Gaining control over incorrect payments. Although a large proportion of incorrect payments are refunded, this involves a lot of work. Contact must be made regarding repayment, which reference should be stated, which account number the money should be returned to, etc. The time spent on this incurs a cost. We can also see the importance of having control over your suppliers and payees. Are we paying money to an approved supplier? The companies that are suppliers change over time. They may experience financial problems, end up on warning lists of unscrupulous companies, etc. Recently, we have been able to read in the media about authorities that have hired companies that do not meet the requirements of an approved supplier.
What do you do in your spare time?
I spend a lot of time with my family, my girlfriend, and my friends. I like to work out and am currently preparing for a Swedish classic!
