Don't miss TV4 News' report on fraudulent companies 🔎

It is very positive that TV4, together with Jens Nylander, is highlighting the challenges that municipalities across the country face in ensuring that public funds do not end up in the wrong hands. We know that fraudulent companies are using increasingly sophisticated and difficult-to-detect methods, so it is important to stay one step ahead with the necessary controls and analyses. The amounts involved are often limited, which is also part of the challenge: to successfully detect even small transactions that over time can add up to large sums. As Philip Syrén, Waste Ombudsman at the Taxpayers' Association, points out in the report, it is a major problem when tax money goes to unscrupulous actors, regardless of the amount, as it risks feeding the criminal economy and reducing trust in the public sector.

At Betalkontroll, we have been working on these issues for a long time, and since 2019, we have had automatic checks against the Swedish Trade Federation's warning list of fraudulent companies integrated into our platform. We continue to develop and add more checks to stay one step ahead. A concrete example of this is our Samröre bluff feature, which we were the first in Sweden to launch in 2024. This makes it possible to identify companies that have links to known fraudulent companies – even if the company in question has not yet been included on any official warning list. This has proven to be a very effective way of identifying unscrupulous operators at an early stage, before they have had time to cause any damage.

We are delighted that more and more municipalities are choosing to use Betalkontroll as a tool to strengthen their purchasing and payment processes. Automating controls reduces the risk of incorrect payments and increases confidence that public funds are being used correctly.
